Bobcats News · Gilmer Lady Cats suffer a heartbreak

The Gilmer Lady Cats traveled to Ringgold Ga. on 8-16-16 where they played an amazing game against the Lady Generals of Heritage High School. The Lady Cats had a rough start allowing the the Lady Generals to score 5 points by the end of the 3rd inning. Not giving up, the Lady Cats fought back harder than before, putting 3 points on the scoreboard by the 3rd inning; all while they held Heritage to no runs. By the beginning of the 6th inning the Lady Cats had racked up 5 more points, putting them in the lead with 9-5. Towards the 6th inning though, the game was delayed due to lighting strikes. After about an hour delay they called the game. Due to the GHSA Ruling of the game score after 5 full innings of play the score went back to 5-3 allowing the Lady Generals to take home the victory, which was rightfully the Lady Cats.

Editor’s note: This heartbreaking loss was followed with another very tough loss to Northwest at GHS last Thursday. The Lady Cats were up 2-1 until the 7th inning when a Northwest runner was ruled safe at the plate in a very controversial call. The game would go into extra innings with the Lady Bruins scoring 4 runs in the top of the 8th and Gilmer scored one run in the bottom of the inning for a final score of NW 6 – GHS 3.
