Our Gilmer Lady Cats Varsity team played a great game Tuesday the 30th. They may have not taken home the win, but they came close with a score of 3-2 against Pickens. Karli Loudermilk did all she could to give the Lady Cats Varsity a boost, but it wasn’t enough to get past Pickens. She had two extra base hits for Gilmer. She also doubled in the fourth and sixth innings. The scoring started for the Lady Cats on a groundout RBI by Madison Carver, scoring Emily Dale, the courtesy runner for senior catcher Karli Loudermilk. The only other Lady Cat run of the evening crossed the plate during the sixth inning in the form of junior Taylor Boling, batted in by another Loudermilk extra base hit. Other Lady Cats putting their mark in the scorebook were Taylor Boling (doubled to CF in the 3rd), Brittani Ballew (singled to LF in the 3rd), and Marie Goswick (sacrifice bunt in the 6th), Boling took the mound for the Lady Cats against the Dragonettes and posted a season-high 12 strikeouts. The Cats held the Nettes scoreless into the bottom of the seventh inning before their bats got hot. These girls worked hard, but unfortunately an error was made, and caused the Dragonettes to get a base hit. This in time, led to them scoring and putting the score to 2-1, but still in favor of the Lady Cats. With only one out coming from a strike out, the Nettes sent a hard hit ball to left field resulting in an RBI triple tying the score up 2-2. By now the fans were up on their feet cheering on their teams. With emotions high, the next batter of the Nettes hit a walkoff single ending the game with a 3-2 score allowing the Dragonettes to take home the victory. Gilmer is now 3-3 in region play, and stands at 3rd place in the region as they begin the second half of region play on Thursday, Sept. 1st at home against Ridgeland.
