Last Friday night, spirit week kicked off with its grand finale, the annual Homecoming Football game. Before this, ten girls and ten guys (seniors) had been chosen by their peers to represent the GHS homecoming court. Along with these seniors, a girl and guy were also chosen for the freshman, sophomore, and junior court. Every year, two students are inducted into GHS royalty, reining as the Homecoming king and queen.
Gracie Davenport was crowned this years Homecoming queen, and Cameron Conn received the title of Homecoming king. Next was the award for first runner up, which went to Kennedy Morgan and Kell Kiker. 2nd runner ups were Sarah Aaron and Levi Seabolt. Holli Holder and Matthew Waddell were named this years 3rd runner ups.
Gilmer High Athletics: How do you feel about being named the Homecoming king (queen) of GHS?
Grace: It was pretty awesome! I was kinda shocked that I won…but it made me feel really good to know that so many people voted for me. I’m glad it happened. It was also crazy because Cameron and I are dating, which just made the night that much more special. It’s something neither of us will forget.
Cameron: Well, it was certainly a surprise. I wasn’t expecting to win it at all. It’s pretty neat, though. It’s even neater that my girlfriend got crowned as queen.
Gilmer High Athletics: What activities/extracurriculars are you involved in?
Grace: I’m the treasurer for Mu Alpha Theta, VP for UCB’S Junior Board of Directors, and the Senior class VP. I’m also involved in chorale, bobcat productions, an honors thespian in theater and the drum major for the GHS band. I really enjoy being involved in everything.
Cameron: I’ve been involved with theater and chorus for four years now. I’ve also been in chess for 3 years. It’s always a good time in these places!
1st Runner Up
Kennedy Morgan: Along with being a part of The World Church and its youth group, Kennedy is also involved in FCA and the BETA Club. She enjoys spending time with her siblings and works at the Local Dairy Queen.
2nd Runner Up
3rd Runner Ups
Matthew Waddell and Holli Holder: Waddell is an award winning wrestler from GHS (3x state champ, 5x all american) and is currently ranked 9th in the nation. Holli Holder was named the 2015-2016 Prom Queen, and is an active member of the Gilmer County FFA chapter.
