Our Gilmer High School Band and color guard has been working very hard for this competition. They practice daily to perfect their performances. Band Director Mr. Joe Pflueger has worked extremely long and hard in preparing our band to play to the best of their ability.
In a brief write Mr. Pflueger tells what happened and how amazing our band did this past Saturday!!
“On Saturday, September 24th, the Gilmer High School Marching Band participated in the 9th Annual Armuchee Invitational in Rome, Georgia. I am pleased to tell you the GHS Marching Band made a clean sweep of the Class 3A Bands. The GHS Band, Drumline, Colorguard, and Drum Major all earned Superior Ratings!! Furthermore, The GHS Band and ALL Captions finished 1st Place in Class AAA. The GHS Drumline and Drum Major Grace Davenport finished the day with the top overall score in their respective categories among ALL bands. The GHS Colorguard finished the day with the second highest score for the ENTIRE competition. The GHS Band earned a Sweepstakes Trophy for having the 3rd highest overall score for the ENTIRE Competition. The competition featured 17 bands ranging in class 1A through Class 6A including schools from Georgia, North Carolina, and Alabama!! The real challenge of the day was fighting the 100 degree temperatures in the afternoon hours!! A huge THANK YOU goes out to the GHS Band Boosters for providing an unlimited amount of water for the students throughout the day! Despite the heat, the GHS Marching Bands performance was magical and well received by the audiences both Friday night at Heritage HS and Saturday evening in Rome. I am so proud of the students, parents, and staff of the GHS Band Program on a job well done! The GHS Band will be in competition again this coming Saturday at Chestatee High School as we compete in the 2016 Lake Lanier Tournament of Bands. Our Performance time is 6:00 pm.”
Tyler Goodine said, “A band is not proud because it performs well, it performs well because it is proud.”
Dakota Martin said, When you think your show was bad, maybe your’re just an overachiever.”
Talking with Kanas Dover she explained her view on the competition. “We did absolutely amazing. I really cant believe that the color guard got 2nd out of all the bands there! Gracie did an amazing job and so did rest of the band. It was hot but we didn’t complain and performed the best we could, and it paid off. I’m ready to take on this Saturday and do better then we did last Saturday!”
These students worked very hard. We are proud of them and the achievements they have made. Come and support our band this Saturday October 1st as they perform in another competition. They will be competing at Chestatee High School in the 2016 Lake Lanier Tournament of Bands. The performance time will be 6:00 pm. Hope to see many fans there!! Keep up the great work GHS Band and good luck this Saturday!!
