This past Friday our GHS Swim Team had a swim meet at Georgia Tech. These athletes have worked very hard this year. These students never gave up and swam their hearts out. Here are the results of the state meet:
The boys’ 200 Free relay dropped 2 seconds to set a school record time of 1:37.00 (James Maxwell, Evan Minter, Landon Bryan, Jared May) and the 400 Free relay also dropped 1.21 seconds (James, Evan, Landon, and Connor Mohon).
The girls 200 Medley relay (Leila Farist, Kaylin Woodring, Rowe Fowler, and Grace Pleasant) dropped 2.73 seconds – they were seeded in the 41st spot going into prelims and moved up to finish in the 35th spot. The 200 Free relay dropped 2.11 seconds for a finish of 1:48.75.
Freshman Aniston Fowler subbed in for Grace on the 400 Freestyle relay because Grace was committed to a maximum of events. They moved up two spots in the rankings with a time of 4:13.06.
Individuals did very well – Evan Minter and Grace Pleasant competed in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke and 100 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, respectively. Grace moved up 4 spots in the rankings as a result of shaving 0.66 seconds off her best time in 100 Breast and had very impressive gains in the 100 Freestyle -she cut 2.09 seconds and moved from the 47th spot to finish in 29th place. Evan also shed 0.76 seconds in the 100 Breaststroke event.
